“Tribal Mensa is a path breaking initiative on 2 key dimensions, the first is that it shakes social biases and proves stereotypes wrong. This is a great achievement in India and is desperately needed. The second is that its a program that has been tenacious and sustainable over a period of time and unlike most developmental interventions hasnt lost steam with time. Kudos to Dr. Desai for spearheading this and selflessly driving its success. Its my privilege to be associated wit this monumental social endeavor.”

I remember few years ago when I met Dr. Narayan Desai for the first time in Mumbai. He spoke to me at length about the work that he is doing for Tribal Mensa. I was very impressed with this way of living, the way he was doing things, it was really simple living and high thinking. He puts all the time and dedication in his projects. He knows all the children that have been selected by name, what year they were selected. Ever now and then we get an email from him when one of his students does well. We all are very happy and impressed with the work that Tribal Mensa has done.”

“I am working with Maharshi Karve Stri Shikshan Sanstha for more than 20 years now. In the year 2007, Mensa India conducted an IQ test for the students in our school, and in this exam, 11 students passed scoring 99 percentile. These gifted tribal students come from very modest backgrounds. The teachers with the help of Mensa India play a significant role in helping these gifted children not only realize but leverage their potential.I believe these children will shine in any competitive context.”

Principal Maharshi Karve Stri Shikshan Sanstha, Ashram School, Kamshet“For the past 17 years I am working as a teacher in Sevadham Trust Ashram School, Malegaon, Taluka Maval, District Pune. In 2002 the Mensa test was conducted in our school. Mr. Narayan Desai, head of Tribal Mensa conducted the test. All of us were elated once the results came outas 4 students had cleared the test with scores above 98 percentile. The names of the children and school was mentioned in the local papers. But now we had a question.. how do we teach these gifted children? To solve this, we had a discussion with Mr. Narayan Desai. With his help, Mrs. Devsena Desai conducted a teacher training program for us. They taught us how to reach these gifted children in a way which will help them to improve their mental capability, bring out their hidden talents and teach the children to maximize their capability. An important learning for us from this training was the knowledge that the teacher had to work as a facilitator. Till date we practice what we learned during the workshops and is beneficial even for our students. The children are faring very well in school and we are able to find more and more Mensans in the school. This training program has played a very vital role in our lives and for which I am truly grateful to Tribal Mensa.”
Ujwala Thorat
Teacher - Sevadham Trust Ashram School“When Tribal Mensa team administered the Mensa test and some students cleared the exam, we were surprised to know that there were gifted children in the tribal community too. Despite the good news, we were faced with the challenge of teaching these gifted children as, their needs and thought process differed from other children….and how to teach them was a question before us. Mr. Narayan Desai helped us solve this issue though the Teacher’s training program. These gifted children take an active part in a lot of school activities and at some level in the management too… and I am rest assured that they will keep studying in the future. Instilled with leadership qualities they are sure to excel in fields they choose to pursue. I have faith that they will fulfill their responsibility toward their tribal roots and work towards the betterment of fellow tribals, becoming model citizens of India.”
